WHO collaborates with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs to create learning platform

Overview

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations, responsible for international public health. WHO wanted to create a sustainable open source development infrastructure to support development of a platform for its new training center. Working with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, WHO developed the Learning Experience Platform (LXP), allowing the WHO team to manage the new platform and processes internally and deliver timely information to healthcare workers.

Healthcare workers need updated and accurate information to perform their jobs as best as possible. To provide healthcare employees the most accurate information, WHO needed an information platform that could deliver timely information. Additionally, WHO sought to look beyond the immediate need and create a data model that could meet healthcare workers’ future needs, including offering more personalized learning experiences.

WHO worked with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs in an eight-week virtual residency to build a scalable, more flexible DevOps platform. To create its new LXP, WHO used open hybrid cloud technologies, including Red Hat® OpenShift® and Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces. Throughout the process, Red Hat taught WHO employees how to manage the platform and processes internally. WHO also began using Red Hat Learning Subscription to keep its team’s skills up to date on emerging technology.

The LXP helps with managing, testing builds, analyzing code, and data visualization. These capabilities allow WHO to give global health workers faster access to relevant healthcare knowledge and to reduce misinformation. Beyond the immediate benefits, WHO is now better prepared to adopt new architectures and applications and to scale the LXP as demand grows without depending on any particular cloud vendor.
